BRIDGE WATERPROOFING TECHNOLOGY

Waterproofing on bridges is necessary to prevent moisture and water from penetrating the bridge
structure. Water can cause significant damage to bridge structures, especially in cold climates. In
particular, water can cause corrosion of metal elements, reduced strength of concrete elements,
and failure of connecting elements.

The waterproofing layer is installed on the surface of the bridge structure, providing protection
against moisture and water. This helps to maintain the strength and durability of the bridge,
reducing the risk of damage and necessary repairs.
TYPES OF BRIDGE WATERPROOFING

There are several types of bridge waterproofing used to protect bridge structures from water and
moisture. The main ones are as follows:
WATERPROOFING MASTICS
These are elastomeric materials that are applied to the bridge surface in a liquid state and cured to a rubbery state. This method of waterproofing can be used for concrete, metal and wooden bridges.
BITUMINOUS FILMS
These are waterproofing materials that consist of a fiberglass or polyester base that is covered with layers of bitumen. They are installed on the bridge surface using molten bitumen or a solvent.
POLIMERIC MEMBRANES
These are waterproofing materials that consist of polymer resins. They are installed on the bridge surface using glue or mechanical means.
SEAM SEALANTS
These are materials used to fill joints on bridge structures to prevent water and moisture from entering. They can be made of polyurethane, silicone, acrylic or polymer bitumen mastic.

Each of these waterproofing methods has its own advantages and disadvantages, so the choice of
method depends on the specific situation and requirements for the bridge structure.
TYPES OF ADDITIVES FOR ASPHALT

There are several types of additives for asphalt concrete mixtures that improve its properties and
increase the service life of the pavement. Here are some of them:
PLASTICIZERS
These additives help reduce the viscosity of asphalt at high temperatures, which allows for lower mix preparation temperatures and increased workability. They can also increase the strength and elasticity of the pavement.
ANTI-STRESS ADDITIVES
These additives help reduce asphalt pavement cracking under stress and strain. They can be made in the form of loosening agents or fiber.

ANTI-RAIN ADDITIVES
These additives help to increase the resistance of the pavement to rain and moisture by preventing it from penetrating the asphalt mixture.
MODIFIERS
These additives help to improve the strength and elasticity of asphalt concrete by adding additional reinforcement to it.
FILLERS
These additives are added to the mix to provide better structure and compactness of the pavement.
OXIDATION INHIBITORS
These additives help prevent asphalt from oxidizing and maintain its quality and strength.
COMBINED
Have the strengths of different types of additives and add certain properties to asphalt concrete.

The choice of a specific additive depends on the requirements for road surface quality, climatic
conditions, and the properties of the soil and base on which the asphalt mixture will be placed.
