Gussasphalt (mastic asphalt) is a proven method of surfacing on bridge structures. Unlike asphalt concrete or SMA, gussasphalt does not require compaction and is impervious to water. Gussasphalt has a prolonged service life, usually 25-30 years. Gussasphalt is characterized by a higher content of limestone filler and binder.
 Thanks to its physical and chemical properties, gussasphalt has a higher frost resistance and an excellent interlayer adhesion. It easily withstands loads from heavy traffic and vibrations of the bridge deck. All this is possible only with a strong bond between all pavement elements, which create a durable safe and secure system for bridge decks.

Both waterproofing and gussasphalt are completely impervious to water, which fully protects the bridge deck from the effects of water and completely eliminates the possibility of water saturation of the pavement, followed by freeze/thaw cycles damage and the "pumping" effect which weakens asphalt concrete structure.
 In European countries, particularly in Germany, a long-standing solution is used, where on such structures, as well as on public roads, gussasphalt is used. It has a significantly longer inter-repair interval (25-30 years), which is evidenced on heavily trafficked highways and bridge structures.
